Pangyo Hyundai Department Store & one mini food haul!

I finally made it to the Hyundai Department store at Pangyo this past weekend and I was seriously impressed. They really set themselves apart from other high end department stores in what they offer and I was able to find a lot that I’d never seen in Korea before. Before I go any further let me clarify that I am only referring to food… Huge surprise! My main motivation for going was to hit up Baekmidang for their organic soy milk soft serve but I’ll talk more about that in a future post 😉

What I wasn’t expecting to find was an array of international restaurants, cafes, bakeries, and more… Even the market section (grocery store basically) sells a lot that I never see elsewhere. It’s here you can find the elusive rainbow bagels, La Cure Gourmande (I’ve never seen this outside of Europe) and Magnolia Bakery. Here are a few snapshots from the B1 floor where most of the food and marketplace is located. I apologise for the poor photos! Shame on me I did not bring my camera 🙁

Gluten free gochujang and doenjang in the marketplace!

Conveyer belt pho! 😛

La Cure Gourmande.

Venchi and their gluten free chocolates 🙂

Also, not pictured (due to poor quality photos, my bad) was a respectable assortment of frozen fruit in the marketplace. There were bags of frozen durian, raspberries, passionfruit, lemons, mangos, strawberries, blueberries, pineapple, figs, cherries, cranberries, mangosteen, pomegranate, oranges, and grapefruit! Definitely the most diverse frozen fruit selection I’ve seen anywhere here and all at decent prices too!

Here is my small food haul which was all bought from the market section except for the La Cure Gourmande. Good quality imported chocolate from: La Cure Gourmande (these bars are two for 10,000won!) Chocolove, raw chocolate from Pacari, and an assortment of dark chocolates from Venchi (all of course dairy and gluten free!) Also some dried sweet potato, and fruit juices. I always buy sweet potato snacks when I find some that aren’t made with wheat. Beware of the ones sold in convenience stores as those usually are! I also found purple kale in the produce section of the marketplace and bought some organic canned chickpeas and beans since they were on sale.

Can you tell I needed a restock in the dark chocolate department? Haha… I should have been honest and just called this a chocolate haul 😛

Directions to Pangyo Hyundai Department Store: Take the sinbundang line south from Gangnam station to Pangyo station. Take exit 2 and turn right when you reach the street. The building will be about a block down on the right. You won’t miss it!
